Ecuador - Chapter 2

Our old Quito exploration continued with a rather mediocre meal at a small, subterranean bistro where I experienced the world's smallest bathroom. When seated on the toilet one's head is essentially in the urinal. Yummy!

Following this bit of compression we headed up to the Panecillo (aka "little bread loaf" and seen below from Plaza San Francisco) where the 90' statue of the Virgin of Quito perches over the city. Aurelia and I paid the $1 to walk up the inside of the statue, made from cast aluminum to a look out midway up.

The city is even larger than I remember it being, spreading up the sides of the valley. Quito is supposed to have 1.8 million inhabitants but I expect that's a bit of an undercount. The sun was incredibly strong the first few days making for some squinty pictures.

More to come...Otavalo.
